Why Use Callisto
Hardware Compatibility
Hardware compatibility has been improved thanks to the CachyOS kernel which already has better compatibility with modern hardware over the stock kernel and further improved with Ublue’s akmods.
Immutability
Callisto is an immutable image. This means that it is hard to break your system whenever software is installed or updated. Software can be installed via Flatpaks or if system packages are required through use of tools like Distrobox.
Look & Feel
Callisto runs a custom theme composed of multiple different community projects including the Darkly window theme and the Tela Icon theme.
Media Ready
Callisto is media ready. It ships with free and non-free media codecs. Virtually all video files will play without having to mess around with package managers and repositories to find the codecs you require.
Minimalism
Callisto ships with a very small number of default system applications. Special care has been taken to only include was is needed and nothing else. Many of the included applications are among the most commonly used Linux utilities including: git, htop, distrobox, and traceroute.
Responsiveness
Callisto is very responsive thanks to the CauchyOS kernel with low-latency sysctl tweaks and performance-oriented environment configurations to maximize kernel efficiency. Additionally, we integrated System76’s process scheduler which assigns higher priority to foreground processes.
