- 8 cups potatoes , thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp. bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup butter , or margarine
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 cup onions , thinly sliced

- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Soak thinly sliced potatoes in cold water for 20 minutes, drain and dry well
- Oil 2 quart casserole and sprinkle bread crumbs on bottoms and sides
- Place a layer of potatoes on bottom, overlapping
- Sprinkle with salt, pepper, thin layer of onions, and a few dollops of butter/margarine
- Continue layers till you have at least five layers (or fill dish)
- Cover lightly and bake till golden brown and potatoes are tender.
- Place a hot dish over top and invert (should look like a cake).
- Slice into smaller pieces
