Cranberry Crumb Squares

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter , (margarine a substitute)
  • 1/3 cup icing sugar
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar , divided
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 can cranberry sauce
  • 1 pkg (250 gram) cream cheese , softened
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Crumble

  • 1/4 cup butter , (margarine squares)
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup walnuts , chopped

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream together 3/4 cup butter and icing sugar. Gradually beat in flour. Press into 13 x 9 inch baking pan and bake for 15 minutes.
  3. Remove from oven and reduce heat to 325 degrees.
  4. Beat cream cheese until fluffy. Gradually and in condensed milk. Stir in lemon. Pour over the crust.
  5. In a small bowl, combine 1 tbsp brown sugar and cornstarch. Blend in the cranberry sauce. Spoon over the cheese mixture.
  6. In a medium bowl, combine remaining 2 tbsp brown sugar and, 1/3 cup of flour. Cut in cold butter or margarine. Stir in the nuts. Sprinkle on top of pan. Bake 45-50 minutes.
